The open-space park, originally named Northwest Square, nestled in Center City was one of William Penn’s five original planned squares of the city in 1684. Renamed in 1825, Logan Square was named after Philadelphia statesman James Logan, who served as the city’s 14th mayor and founded the University of Pennsylvania. In 1842, a city ordinance prevented any horse, cow, or cart from driving within the boundaries of the squares, which later kept the same provisions for automotive vehicles, leaving the area a pedestrian-friendly space.
Logan Square was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1981. The focal point of its community, Logan Square creates an ideal atmosphere for fun, relaxation, and recreation. In 2012, the city refurbished all of Philadelphia’s original squares with new greenery and cleaner accompaniments, reigniting Logan Square’s aesthetic nature as a popular urban green space.
Our apartments near Logan Square maintain that same air and architecture of the area’s deep industrial history as well, keeping the characteristics and charm of the building’s original use as a five-story plant for the Harrington Hoist Company in the early 20th century.
